Quizzed on gross negligence

Three of Lucy Letby's bosses arrested on suspicion of manslaughter

THREE former executives at the hospital where Lucy Letby murdered seven babies have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

The unnamed ex-bosses worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital from June 2015 to June 2016 during Letby’s killings in the neonatal unit.

They were quizzed by detectives on Monday and have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The arrests came after a Cheshire Police investigation into potential corporate manslaughter at the hospital was opened in 2023. It was widened in March to include gross negligence manslaughter.

Police said the arrests did not have any impact on Letby’s convictions.

The 35-year-old, of Hereford, became one of Britain’s most prolific serial child killers after being found guilty in 2023 of murdering seven infants and trying to murder seven others, with two attempts on one of her victims.

Now serving 15 whole-life orders, she has twice had applications to challenge her convictions rejected by the Court of Appeal.
