Thousands hit by major web outages

A MAJOR global internet outage affected a wide range of apps and websites yesterday, including HMRC, Halifax and Lloyds.
Downdetector, a website which tracks complaints about online services, showed a spike in reports between 9am and 10am as disruption hit Amazon Web Services.
Sites affected included Snapchat, Slack and Ring.
By 10.27am, AWS said it had seen “significant signs of recovery”, and at 11.35am, it added the “underlying DNS (domain name system) issue has been fully mitigated”.
