Strikes at lowest level in year as job market cools
Daily Express
|October 25, 2023
AT least 119,000 working days were lost to industrial disputes in August - the lowest monthly figure in a year, data has revealed.
Most strikes were in the health and social work sector, the Office for National Statistics said.
Junior doctors and hospital consultants in England have staged a series of strikes in a long-running dispute over pay and conditions in the NHS.
The number of days lost to walkouts in August was down significantly from last December when 843,000 working days were lost.
It meant that between June and December 2022 some 2,471,000 days were scratched off the - highest since 1989 when rail and council workers were on strike.
