'Stop puberty blockers trial, kids are too young'

A SHADOW minister has called on the Health Secretary to halt a trial of puberty-blocking drugs involving young children.

Claire Coutinho, Shadow Minister for Equalities, today writes in the Daily Express asking Wes Streeting to stop the clinical trial involving 226 children, the youngest of whom is eight, due to start early this year.

Recalling herself at eight, Ms Coutinho says she dressed like eccentric TV entertainer Timmy Mallett and entertained childish dreams such as fighting witches.

She writes: “Despite the Health Secretary saying he is uncomfortable with the trial, the Labour government is pushing ahead with it.
