Starmer urged to push Trump to end steel tariffs

Manufacturers say contracts at stake

STEEL industry leaders have urged the Prime Minister to get Donald Trump to end tariffs on UK imports when the pair meet during the US president's visit to Scotland.

But expectations are low, despite both nations signing a provisional deal in May that was supposed to eliminate levies entirely.

However, Mr Trump said he and Sir Keir Starmer could “approve” that US-UK trade deal when they meet.

The president said: “We're going to be talking about the trade deal we made and maybe even approve it.”

Last night, the Republican leader touched down at Prestwick Airport in Air Force One after a short delay, marking the start of a private five-day visit to Scotland.
