LEWIS MILEY was Newcastle's hero as his 92nd-minute winner sent the defending champions into the semifinals.

- BY LEE RYDER

The game was heading towards penalties after Sasa Lukic had cancelled out Yoane Wissa's opener in the space of six first-half minutes.

Miley then looked to have spurned Newcastle's best chance to seal a late victory when his placed effort was kept out by Fulham goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.

But the Frenchman could do nothing about the subsequent corner as Miley headed on Sandro Tonali's cross to send St James' Park wild.

Newcastle made a sluggish start to the game and as the rain lashed down it was the visitors who forced a succession of corners without managing to convert a clear-cut chance.

But the hosts grabbed the lead on 10 minutes with a well-crafted opener.
