The Health Secretary has gone to war with junior doctors over their eye-watering demands for a 26% pay rise just one year after securing a 29% hike.

When schemers in No10 briefed to the press that he was a plotter trying to destabilise the government, Streeting toured the television studios sounding eminently reasonable, just a loyal colleague who had fallen victim to unfair smears.

But slipped out amid all the chaos and noise last month was a written statement from Streeting setting out how 226 children will be used to trial puberty blockers. Children as young as ten will be experimented on with one group given the drugs for two years, while another will receive them after a one-year delay.
