Row over unlawful gastro pub built in Shakespeare village

Rakesh Singh, 56, opened The Cask N Tandoor in March in the grounds of his £265-a-night Burnside Hotel in Shottery, Warks.

The Indian pub is just 600ft from Anne Hathaway's cottage, and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, which manages the site, complained the eatery was intruding on its land.

Residents in the affluent village, where average house prices are £500,000, also said the development has affected wildlife in the area.

Mr Singh may now be ordered to demolish the pub and its decking.
