'Extra appendage is identified'

Row over the Bayeux Tapestry's rude bits

A HISTORIAN claims to have discovered an extra penis on the Bayeux Tapestry which has not been spotted until now — nearly 1,000 years after the Battle of Hastings was depicted in the 230ft artwork.

Medieval scholar Dr Christopher Monk reckons a protuberance appearing from under the tunic of a running man, which was previously thought to be a scabbard for his sword, is in fact his manhood.

It flies in the face of a previous tally by Oxford professor George Garnett, who seven years ago identified 93 depictions of male genitalia - four on naked men, one on a corpse and 88 on horses, including the one ridden by William the Conqueror.
