Prisoner killed man on day he was freed early from jail

A SERIAL thug killed a man on the day he was set free under an early release policy approved by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
Liam Matthews was part of a gang of three who hunted father-of-one Lewis Bell, 26, “like prey” before he was fatally stabbed.
The attack in September occurred just hours after Matthews, 26, walked free from his cell under the early release scheme to ease chronic prison overcrowding.

Yesterday a jury at Teesside Crown Court found Sean McLeod, 23, guilty of murder and Matthews and accomplice Ashton White, 18, guilty of manslaughter.
The feud was connected to a drug den in Stockton where Mr Bell was accused of robbing other visitors, the court was told.
