Policing 'will suffer' under new plans to merge forces

SHABANA Mahmood’s radical policing plans will result in fewer officers and make the crime crisis worse, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp declared.
Shabana Mahmood meets police officers in London
The Home Secretary yesterday confirmed she wants to drastically reduce the number of forces in England and Wales.
But Mr Philp warned: “999 response times and investigations will suffer as a result.”
Ms Mahmood says Labour is ring-fencing the number of officers in neighbourhood policing roles, and vowed to take national responsibilities from local forces.
