MEET this proud mum of two...an African elephant shrew, the first of her species to give birth in the UK.
Mala welcomed two tiny pups on February 23, and yesterday they emerged from their nest for the first time, at about the size and weight of an AA battery.She and dad Nuru are the only breeding pair of black and rufous sengi in the country, and live at Hertfordshire Zoo, near Broxbourne.
The unusual miniature mammals are native to the forests and shrublands of southeastern Kenya.
