Pension age review could mean we'll work until 70

WORKERS face having to stay on to 70 pending a Government review of the official pension age.

Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall has instructed Suzy Morrissey of the Pensions Policy Institute to look at automatic increases.

The review will examine how the age when payments start is linked to life expectancy in countries including Denmark, which has a state pension age of 70.

The UK’s current state pension age of 66 is set to rise to 67 next year, with a scheduled increase to 68 by 2046.

Critics warned automatic increases in retirement age would throw people's well-laid plants into disarray.
