One hit, loads of misses

If you'd switched on Radio 1 in the summer of 1982, you might have heard a song called Da Da Da.

Not to be confused with De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da (performed by The Police), nor with Do Wah Diddy Diddy (made famous by Manfred Mann), nor with Doo-Da Doo-Da, Tony Blackburn Wears A Bra (which I believe was composed by Rodgers and Hammerstein), Da Da Da was a top 10 hit for a German band called Trio, reaching number two in the UK in June of that year.

And, boy, did it kick-start an amazing chart career! Boy, no, it didn't. Outside their homeland, Da Da was to be Trio's only hit. For some reason, their follow-up songs, such as 1983's single Bum Bum, just couldn't capture the public's imagination. It really is a fickle old business.
