Northern rail plans delayed in blow to PM

MINISTERS have been forced to delay the announcement of a major new rail line in a blow to Labour's conference plans.
The revived Northern Powerhouse Rail project was set to be the centrepiece of the party gathering in Liverpool, which begins on Sunday.
But that has now been scrapped.
The NPR is set to include a new line between Liverpool and Manchester, with services to Manchester Airport and Warrington. It could also include connections to Crewe, Leeds and Bradford.
Sir Keir Starmer said last night: "I'm absolutely committed to Northern Powerhouse Rail.
