Navy man sues MoD for £500k over jet's noise

A FORMER Royal Navy engineer who says his hearing was ruined as a fighter jet landed next to him on an aircraft carrier is suing for £500,000.
Harry Jefferson was aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth, refuelling a Merlin helicopter, when the supersonic F-35 stealth fighter landed in 2021.
Although he tried to turn his head, the 27-year-old was exposed to extreme noise and heat as the vertical-landing jet touched down.
He suffered permanent hearing damage, quit the Navy and is now suing the MoD for about £500,000 for the loss of his career.
Colleague Reece Colwell, 25, who was alongside him, claims a smaller sum as his career was not ended.
