A WOMAN who appealed for £500 to revamp a riot-hit library - and raised 500 times that amount has been given a slap-up civic thank you.
Manicurist Alex McCormick, 27, launched her bid to repair and restock Spellow Library after yobs set it alight during disturbances on August 3.
Yesterday, Liverpool's Lord Mayor, Richard Kemp, thanked her on behalf of the city at a town hall event.
Mum-of-one Alex started her fundraising after feeling "upset, angry and a little bit helpless" when the Liverpool library was torched.
