Labour’s food deal with Brussels ‘is a betrayal of Brexit’

SIR Keir Starmer was last night accused of betraying Brexit as Labour announced plans for a new deal with Brussels over food to help slash red tape and cut costs for consumers.

The Labour minister also claimed Reform leader Nigel Farage’s hostility to the EU would push up grocery prices. Polls show Reform still ahead of the other parties. Mr Farage has made a series of summer policy announcements including measures to fight crime and stop illegal immigration.

Cabinet Office minister Nick Thomas-Symonds admitted the Government was ready to align with EU rules but insisted this was the best way to drop prices.

The Government hopes to get a permanent deal on food and drink agreed in the next 18 months in order to avoid border checks.
