Iranian's 'insincere' protests to 'bolster' his asylum claim

AN Iranian asylum seeker accused of deliberately attending protests against his home country’s regime to “bolster” his claim to stay here has won a legal victory.

The unnamed man argued that he was “at risk” in Iran because of his attendance at demonstrations in the UK and for Facebook posts he made criticising the government.

However, an immigration tribunal heard that this political activity took place after the man — who was 16 when he moved to the UK - had his original asylum application rejected by the Home Office.
