Iranian hurled bricks at cops after attacks in Southport

AN Iranian who fled to Britain aged 15 citing religious persecution has been jailed for rampaging through a town, attacking police and residents.

Alan Mohammed, 32, was spoiling for a fight against protesters who took to the streets over the Southport stabbings by Axel Rudakubana days earlier. He threw bricks at police officers and protesters, then faced off against a line of police outside a mosque in Hanley, Staffordshire.

He then ran through the town with a group of people, terrifying innocent residents.

Jailing him for two years, Judge Richard McConaghy said: "Some of the group were carrying weapons. They engaged in a serious assault on an individual from the other group.
