Jenny, 77, faces losing home after fence row defeat

- BY PAUL VASS

A DISPUTE over a 1ft-wide strip of land has left a woman holed up in her home, terrified of being evicted.

Jenny Field, 77, says she is no longer opening her door to strangers, as she fears bailiffs will throw her out and her £420,000 bungalow will be sold off to pay a £113,000 legal bill. She said: “I’m just going to sit tight.”

The dispute began in 2020, when Ms Field says neighbour Pauline Clark had a 6ft garden fence erected that encroached 1ft on to her land.

So she hired her own contractors to dismantle the fence and put up another, set back 1ft. Mrs Clark sued for damage, theft and trespass, and a judge ruled in her favour in 2022.
