RORY MCILROY insists that he will be “very happy” to step aside for the younger generation of players while he still has “a little bit left in the tank”.

The 35-year-old Northern Irishman said: “I don’t want to be out there embarrassing myself.”

McIlroy will tee up at the £19million Players Championship today after admitting the latest injury suffered by his friend Tiger Woods, right, “sucks”.

The American superstar, who turns 50 this year, has had surgery after rupturing his Achilles tendon in training and faces a fight to return to top-level golf. McIlroy will make his 11th bid to complete a career grand slam of Major victories at The Masters next month.
