High energy costs force historic pottery to close

WORKERS at Royal Stafford, one of the oldest potteries, were told to pack up and leave when bosses called in the receivers.
Most of the 83 were reportedly handed letters before a tannoy message asked them to go home. Robert Morley, an employee and GMB union rep, said his workmates were "gutted" and "devastated".
He revealed word reached him on a day off and he drove to the pottery in Burslem, Stoke, to find the gates locked. Mr Morley said: "I got a phone call that said everyone's been told to get their stuff and get home.
