Hidden salt risks in top takeaways

SOME of the country's most popular fast food dishes include far more salt than the recommended daily guidelines and more than is shown on their menus, according to research.

One pasta dish contained 11.2g, almost double the 6g recommended full-day intake for an adult. But traditional fish and chip shop meals contained low levels, as it is only added after cooking and on request.

Researchers found that 47% of the takeaways analysed in the study exceeded their declared salt levels with curries, pasta and pizza dishes often failing to match what their menus claimed.
