The Southport-based star shot his lowest opening round in a Major with his 66 on a glorious summer's day.
And Fleetwood, who has twice finished second in Majors, joined 6ft 8in Amateur Champion Lamprecht as the two tall stories of the day.
Everton fan Fleetwood, who is 5ft 11in, had never led his home Major until he parred the last two holes for a five-under-par score to stand shoulder to shoulder with Lamprecht.
