Hannon praise for 'Superman' Lion

RICHARD HANNON was on the verge of tears as Rosallion thundered down the track for a thrilling St James's Palace Stakes strike.

Well-backed at 5-2, Sean Levey's battling partner had to work overtime to reel in Henry Longfellow but persistence paid off.

In a few nervy moments for his supporters, Rosallion was locked in a pocket behind the eventual runner-up and his pace-setting stablemate Unquestionable.

But the gap opened and the second favourite needed no second invitation to erode the deficit, eventually getting ahead of his rival by a neck.

Rosallion finished second to Notable Speech, who trailed home seventh, in Newmarket's 2,000 Guineas before he gained Curragh compensation in the Irish equivalent.
