Gun salutes celebrate first year of King's crowning glory

GUN salutes across the home nations rang out to celebrate the first anniversary of King Charles's Coronation yesterday.

On a damp and dreary bank holiday the same weather as when he was crowned last year deafening thuds from pounding field guns marked the event.

In London, the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery and the Honourable Artillery Company each fired volleys in a ceremonial spectacle accompanied by the Band of the Irish Guards.

Both regiments were responsible for firing Coronation guns to signal the exact moment the crown touched the King's head during the ceremony in Westminster Abbey one year earlier.
