To be frank...
-
THE FALLOUT from the Bafta incident in which John Davidson, who has Tourette's syndrome, shouted a racial slur has been an absolute sh**show.
I don't have Tourette's, I'm just angry. I don't know anyone with it. I know very little about the condition but even in my ignorance, I understand the tics and outbursts are involuntary, neurological misfires. A terrible, incurable affliction that Davidson has dedicated his life to raising awareness of. Which is why it's so grotesque that an industry forever congratulating itself for its progressive, liberal values and inclusivity has allowed a working-class caretaker from Galashiels to be publicly humiliated for his disability.
He was invited to the ceremony because his life and activism inspired the film I Swear. But that didn't stop the social-media jackals rushing to accuse him of meaning the awful word he shouted as Delroy Lindo and Michael B Jordan took to the stage. Do they also believe he meant it when he said "f*** the Queen" to her face when he received his MBE?
