First discovery of pharoah's tomb for more than century

BRITISH-LED experts have found the first tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh since Tutankhamun more than a century ago.

The chamber of Thutmose II, who died 3,500 years ago in the 18th dynasty, was located in the Western Valleys of the Theban Necropolis.

It followed a 12-year mission by British independent group the New Kingdom Research Foundation and Egypt's ministry of tourism and antiquities.

Piers Litherland, of Cambridge University's McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, and Dr Judith Bunbury, of Wolfson College, Oxford, were also involved in finding Thutmose II.
