'Evil predator' killer jailed for 28 years

A MAN who raped and murdered his ex-fiancee in a hotel room was yesterday jailed for life for a minimum of 28 years.

Samantha Mickleburgh’s body was found at five-star Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey, on April 14 last year after James Cartwright, 61, strangled her.

Cartwright was convicted last month but was acquitted of a further charge of controlling and coercive behaviour. Prosecutor Louise Oakley said his relationship with mum-of-two Ms Mickleburgh, 54, was “cruel, repressive and overbearing”.

Six members of Ms Mickleburgh’s family gave victim impact statements at Guildford Crown Court in which they warmly remembered her and addressed Cartwright.
