NKETIAH DESPERATE TO SEE PAL MAKE RETURN

- Neil McLeman

Eddie's so ready to play second fiddle again

EDDIE NKETIAH says Crystal Palace need Jean-Philippe Mateta to lead their FA Cup campaign even if it means less playing time for him.

Mateta's head injury probably means Nketiah will start only his seventh Premier League match for the club, against Ipswich on Saturday.

The £25million signing from Arsenal, who won his only England cap in October 2023, moved across London last summer in the search for more game time.

But Mateta has maintained a good scoring record and Premier League teams no longer use two strikers, as Palace did back in the 1980s and 90s with Ian Wright and Mark Bright.

Nketiah, 25, followed his first Premier League goal for Palace against Aston Villa last Tuesday with a looping header to seal victory against Millwall after replacing Mateta who was clattered by Lions keeper Liam Roberts in the 15th minute.
