Emmerdale's Katie Hill tells us why her character Sarah Sugden is taking very risky measures to help her cancer-stricken grandfather Cain
-
Emmerdale’s Sarah Sugden is just 20 years old, but she’s already battled leukaemia, throat cancer, heart failure and cervical cancer.
Now as she carries the secret of her grandfather Cain Dingle's prostate cancer and new parenthood looms, Sarah has found an unexpected outlet for her stress - stealing cars.
Actress Katie Hill, who has played Sarah since 2017, reckons her character is addicted to the adrenaline rush. She also wants to make money as Cain (Jeff Hordley) has just found out he's got no life insurance.
"She's the one that can help him through this right now," says Katie, 22. "They have such a close bond, and she knows that he would always do the same for her. If she was in trouble, he'd be there helping her through it. He's struggling with the farm. He also finds out that he's not got life insurance. That's what makes her go, 'Oh, well, you're a Dingle. I'm a Dingle.' She's not stolen any cars yet, so he shows her the way.
"After the first one, Sarah has a taste for what it's like and the adrenaline and how she really enjoys doing that with him. So she definitely wants to help him out with money.
It's also a distraction from his [prostate cancer] diagnosis."
