Newcastle Red Bulls axe boss after one game as Townsend is lined up for consultancy

- BY ADAM HATHAWAY

STEVE DIAMOND has been sacked as Newcastle boss - with new owners Red Bull ruthlessly ripping up the club's coaching structure.

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend is set to take a part-time role looking at strategy after signing on as a Red Bull performance consultant for around a month a year.

His role will not affect his duties at Murrayfield, with Kingston Park assistant Alan Dickens, circle, taking over Diamond's matchday role.

Diamond was axed yesterday, just weeks after Red Bull's £40million buyout of the club was confirmed in August.

Red Bull have massive interests in Formula One and football, through RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, but this is their first foray into rugby union.
