Bridget statue 'permanent' on 25th birthday

Sculpture of the beloved fictional character will stay put in London's Leicester Square

A STATUE of Bridget Jones will remain a permanent fixture on a trail of Britain's best-loved characters in Central London.

The announcement comes as the first movie in the franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The figure was unveiled at Leicester Square in November last year, with the film's star Renee Zellweger saying her role as the protagonist had been a "pretty big blessing".

The statue is part of the Scenes in the Square trail, which also includes Harry Potter, Batman, Paddington, Wonder Woman and Mary Poppins in an area that has become known as the capital's film centre.
