Brain implant helps woman to speak again

A PARALYSED woman has spoken for the first time in 18 years, after she was connected to a talking avatar in a world first for medical science.
Ann, 48, lost her ability to speak after she suffered a brainstem stroke at the age of 30. But she can now communicate through the on-screen graphic, which reproduces her voice and even has facial expressions to help convey what she is saying.
She worked for weeks with scientists to help train a computer system, developed using AI technology, to recognise her brain signals.
