Binmen's strike may last till summer

ALMOST 400 bin workers have walked out indefinitely as part of a dispute over jobs and pay leaving rubbish mounting up in streets.

The Unite union has warned bin disruption in Birmingham could stretch into the summer after workers voted in favour of extending a strike mandate over the council's use of temporary labour to “undermine” industrial action.

Unite said its members face pay cuts after the scrapping of waste collection and recycling officer roles, despite already voluntarily accepting salary reductions when Birmingham City Council declared bankruptcy.
