Allies 'are running out of ammunition'

WESTERN military powers yesterday warned they are running out of ammunition to give Ukraine for its fight against Russia.

The alert was led by UK officials, with Defence Minister James Heappey admitting stockpiles were "looking a bit thin".

Admiral Rob Bauer, Nato's most senior military official, also told the meeting of the Warsaw Security Forum that "the bottom of the barrel is now visible".

Ukrainian forces fire thousands of shells every day and most now come from Nato.

But Admiral Bauer warned that, after nearly two years of war, western defence manufacturers now need to "ramp up production in a much higher tempo".
