Alert after scammers pose as City watchdog

FRAUDSTERS posing as the Financial Conduct Authority are targeting Brits in a surge of scams, with nearly 5,000 cases reported in the first half of 2025.

Crooks aim to steal money by getting people to hand over sensitive information, such as passwords or bank account pins, or funds.

Of 4,465 reports, 480 people have fallen victim to the scammers so far.

The City watchdog Steve Smart said: “Fraudsters are ruthless. They attempt to steal money from innocent victims by impersonating the FCA.
