Accused 'spy' said he 'knew minister'

A MAN accused of trying to help the Russians said he had information about the then Defence Secretary, a court heard.

Howard Phillips, 65, from Harlow, Essex, is charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service under the National Security Act.

Yesterday, jurors at Winchester Crown Court were played a covert recording of a meeting between Phillips and two undercover intelligence officers at Lakeside Shopping Centre, Essex, on May 9, 2024.
