70% get no treatment for pancreatic cancer

SEVEN in ten people with pancreatic cancer are not being treated due to diagnosis and care delays.

Pancreatic Cancer UK says services must be urgently overhauled to give thousands of sufferers more time with their loved ones.

It wants patients to be diagnosed within three weeks of being referred for tests, and to then start treatment within a further three weeks.

CEO Diana Jupp said: "People with this devastating disease deserve better. For seven in ten people to receive no treatment at all not even chemotherapy is shocking. Treatment rates have remained stagnant for at least a decade."

Just 34% of pancreatic cancer patients receive treatment. This is well below the rates for breast (86%) and bowel (74%) cancers.
