4,000 fat cat council chiefs pocket £100k+ in a year

COUNCIL fat cats were given record levels of pay and pensions last year, research has revealed.

Data released by campaign group the TaxPayers' Alliance show that nearly 4,000 employees received total remuneration of £100,000 or more in 2023-24.

The 3,906 figure is 26% higher than in 2022-23, while the number of staff taking home more than £150,000 has risen by 32% in the same period.

A total of 262 council fat cats were handed more than £200,000 in combined salary, bonuses and pension contributions. This was 50% more than in 2022-23.
