All aboard to mark 200 years of modern railway

THIS year is the 200th anniversary of the modern railway in Britain and passengers from Crewe can mark this milestone on board three steam specials.

Two hundred years ago in 1825, George Stephenson’s steam-powered Locomotion No 1 travelled 26 miles between Shildon, Darlington and Stockton carrying hundreds of passengers to a great fanfare and setting in motion events that transformed how the world travelled, traded and communicated.
The Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday, July 12, and The Worcester Steam Express on Saturday, September 20, have been organised by heritage rail operator The Railway Touring Company.
