SKY BLUES KEEN TO STRENGTHEN SQUAD - AND KEEP KEY PLAYERS - BEFORE TRANSFER WINDOW SHUTS

- By ANDY TURNER Sky Blues Reporter

COVENTRY City are continuing to push to bring in new signings while attempting to hold on to their best players in the final ten or 11 days of the summer transfer window.

Fans are becoming increasingly nervous and concerned about the lack of activity so far, with the Sky Blues not having brought in any fresh faces in almost a month, since the back end of July when goalkeeper Carl Rushworth joined on loan following the arrivals of fullbacks Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Miguel Angel Brau in June.

Asked his weekly transfer question, whether there's been any progress in terms of new signings, Frank Lampard who continues to keep schtum on the club's transfer business in line with owner Doug King's wishes said: "There's nothing to the report."

Pushed by the Coventry Telegraph on the subject and asked if he remains calm, hopeful or confident that he's going to get what he wants in terms of numbers and positions before the September 1 deadline, the head coach opened up a little by saying: "Well, it's such a hard thing. Because this part of the window is, you know...

"My job is to be really involved in it but of course everybody's playing the same game. People want players, they don't want to lose their players - all these things. So I can't ever give you absolutely straight answers. I'm not being too protective about that."
