It's time to reduce the tax burden on motorists
Coventry Telegraph
|November 24, 2025
THE Budget on November 26 is a good opportunity to revisit the excessive taxation levied against drivers. UK-wide, we are taxed four to five times over for the spend on roads.
-
Not all of this is spent wisely and drivers are left worse off by some measures. Public money would have been better spent removing the blight of potholes.
Possible road pricing is talked up against a massive drop in fuel duty revenue that hasn't happened, as private drivers largely steer clear of overpriced electric vehicles. Any shortfall would be self-inflicted as various authorities progressively force drivers off the road or make it difficult to buy the vehicles they want.
