RAMPANT CITY FASTEST TO 50 GOALS IN SECOND TIER SINCE 1958/59

Goalden wonder!

Ellis Simms glances a header from a corner to give City the lead

FRANK Lampard celebrated his one-year anniversary in charge of Coventry City by maintaining the league leaders' outstanding form at the top of the Championship as they fought back to beat Charlton Athletic.

Harvey Knibbs gave the visitors a surprise lead at the CBS Arena when he turned in Tyreece Campbell's deflected shot from six yards after 13 minutes.

But the Sky Blues hit back with two goals just before halftime as Josh Eccles scored from outside the box and Ellis Simms glanced in a header from a corner.

Simms then poked in Coventry's 50th league goal of the season 14 minutes from time to seal victory and ensure they kept a ten point cushion on nearest challengers Middlesbrough.

Here are some of the big talking points from the 3-1 victory...

➤ Ellis Simms is the latest Frank Lampard success story - the centre-forward stepping up in Haji Wright's absence and delivering with an outstanding five goals in three games to help maintain City's grip on top spot.

It’s a remarkable turnaround for the 24-year-old who struggled to get significant game time in the first 12 Championship games of the season.

In that time he started just one match - getting through an impressive 90 minutes at Portsmouth - and stepped off the bench 11 times to the tune of a total of just 184 minutes.

His form and goal return speaks volumes for the player's strength of character and desire to be successful, both for himself and the club.

And he's thriving right now, driven on by the love being shown to him from the fans who have got right behind him in recent weeks, regularly singing his name from the stands.
