'No immediate plans' to close recycling site

Council said it has no immediate plans to close Cheddar's household waste recycling centre nearly two years after such a closure was first proposed.The council published proposals in January 2024 to close five of the county's 16 recycling centres in a bid, saving £963,000, as part of a wider series of savings intended to balance its budget for the 2024/25 financial year.

The final revenue budget which was approved in February 2024 somewhat watered down the proposals, seeking to save the amount of money without committing to closing or reducing the service levels at any specific site.

The council has now confirmed that Cheddar's recycling centre will remain open with its current hours for the foreseeable future and that any proposed changes would be subject to a full public consultation.
