VERY few people can dispute the notion that the Constitutional Court has been the country’s last line of defence, even in matters where it drew significant political pressure.

Remember the sentencing of Jacob Zuma to a prison term, a decision that was said to have ignited the deadly July 2021 unrest. Even then, the Constitutional Court stood tall in the face of one of the toughest tests it has ever been confronted with.
That decision was to communicate that indeed all are equal before the law. Its message was that anyone who dares to think they can be in contempt of court decisions must think twice.
