THE Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has secured a forfeiture order following the arrest of two Zimbabwean nationals for the alleged kidnapping and rape of a Stellenbosch University student and extortion of her parents.

- STAFF REPORTER

The NPA confirmed that the Western Cape High Court granted the AFU a forfeiture order of R89 000 after Truth Mambemba and Takudzwa Chauruka were apprehended on charges of kidnapping, two counts of rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, extortion, illegal possession of a firearm, and entering and remaining in South Africa illegally.

On October 2, 2024, a 20-year-old University of Stellenbosch student went to a nearby club with her friends. They spent time together, had drinks, and went their separate ways when the club closed at 2am. She decided to walk back to her university residence, NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said.

She only remembers being inside a vehicle sitting in the passenger seat with two strange men in the same vehicle, one driving and another sitting in the back seat.
