Romero Hector's 800km journey to honour his late wife

ROMERO Hector, the widower of Lieutenant Commander Gillian Hector, who was among three people who died in the submarine tragedy in Kommetjie in 2023, has completed 800km on his bicycle from Cape Town to Graaff-Reinet in a bid to create awareness and have the SA Navy’s internal report made public in order to give him and other families closure.
His TikTok account, Rome-ro&GillianHector, went public last week, announcing that he was going to embark on the cycling campaign titled #justice4submarine3, in which he vowed to complete the 800km within four days while capturing and documenting his journey.
Just last week, the SANDF confirmed the re-opening Board of Inquiry (BOI), adding that the report was being processed by the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) legal team.
