Kite fest a celebration of mental health and inclusion

THE Heideveld Community Sports Field came alive with adorable smiling faces and the air filled with colourful kites yesterday.
Organisers Cape Mental Health kicked off their second event as part of this year’s Cape Town International Kite Festival taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
Now in its 31st year, the flagship festival is back for the first time in it’s two-day format since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Professor Ingrid Daniels, CEO for Cape Mental Health, said the kite festival is an opportunity to talk about mental health as October is Mental Health Awareness Month.
She said: “We create a lot of awareness. This year the theme is Courage to Fly and encouraging people who need mental health services to contact us.
